Cameron dispuesto a vetar un impuesto a las transacciones financieras en UE
Londres.- El primer ministro británico, David Cameron, dijo este domingo que está dispuesto a vetar cualquier intento por establecer un impuesto a las transacciones financieras en la Unión Europea (UE) porque puede perjudicar el mercado laboral.
En declaraciones a la cadena BBC, Cameron señaló que Francia, Alemania y otros países europeos pueden fijar esta tasa dentro de sus propias fronteras, pero se opondrá si es a nivel de la UE.
Según el jefe del Gobierno británico, imponer un impuesto de este tipo -más conocido como Tobin- en toda la Unión sin que se apliquen medidas similares en otros lugares del mundo puede perjudicar el mercado laboral europeo y la prosperidad del continente.
Francia se ha mostrado a favor de establecer esta tasa en el país y quiere sacar adelante una legislación para aplicarla.
«Si los franceses quieren seguir adelante con el impuesto a las transacciones en su propio país, entonces son libres de hacerlo», afirmó el primer ministro británico.
Pero subrayó que vetará «la idea de una nueva tasa europea cuando no se aplique el impuesto en otros lugares» del mundo.
El presidente francés, Nicolas Sarkozy, hizo la propuesta de la tasa el pasado viernes y quiere desarrollar una legislación antes de que se celebren en abril las elecciones presidenciales en Francia. EFE
