Tegucigalpa.- Un incendio en la Granja Penal de Comayaguase en la zona central de Honduras podría haber matado a 356 reclusos, Comisionado de Derechos Humanos, Ramón Custodio, dijo el miércoles.
Ese número de presos no respondió a una votación nominal se llevó a cabo, pero un recuento oficial aún no está disponible, dijo Custodio.
La prisión de los internos alojados 853, que fue muy por encima de la capacidad de la instalación, el comisionado de derechos humanos, dijo.
El incendio comenzó alrededor de 22:55 Martes y «decenas de heridos y quemados» los reclusos fueron trasladados a hospitales de la ciudad de Comayagua, departamento de bomberos portavoz de Josué García, dijo a Efe.
El fuego fue «aparentemente iniciado por un cortocircuito», dijo el portavoz de la Secretaría de Seguridad Héctor Iván Mejía a los periodistas.

Funcionarios culpó de los problemas estructurales de la prisión, una situación común en las cárceles del país centroamericano, para el el incendio.
Un total de 66 reclusos y tres mujeres, entre ellos un menor de edad, murieron en un motín el 5 de abril de 2003, la participación de miembros de pandillas y delincuentes comunes en la Granja Penal de El Porvenir, ubicada cerca de la ciudad caribeña de La Ceiba. EFE
