Paralizan 15 minutos el New York Times
Washington, EE.UU.- Cientos de periodistas del New York Times salieron de la redacción del célebre periódico para efectuar en la calle un paro de 15 minutos en protesta por la intransigencia del editor en la negociación sobre la renovación del convenio de trabajo, que venció hace 18 meses.
La iniciativa de cruzar los brazos en la Eight Avenue no interfirió, sin embargo, con la producción del periódico. La acción sindical fue simbólica y no modificó la posición de la empresa, que canceló ulteriores negociaciones tras haber vuelto a la mesa durante apenas diez minutos.
Los máximos directivos del New York Times harán una oferta final al sindicato mañana.
Las huelgas en los periódicos estadounidenses no son frecuentes: The Washington Post y Wall Street Journal han puesto en práctica en más de una ocasión el de la firma, mandando a la imprenta el diario sin el nombre de los autores de los artículos.
En 2007, para protestar contra la pérdida de independencia tras el ingreso en la «escudería» de Rupert Murdoch, los reporteros de la «Biblia» de la finanza se quedaron en casa durante todo el día. El Wall Street Journal, sin embargo, salió al día siguiente porque los periodistas, para «demostrar sentido de responsabilidad», volvieron a la redacción por la noche.
En el New York Times se hizo una huelga «seria» en 1978. Los cronistas del diario se cruzaron de brazo durante tres meses, en una movilización que indujo a un grupo de autores satíricos, entre los cuales estaban, Nora Ephron, George Plimpton y John Leo a imprimir una parodia del periódico titulado «Not The New York Times».(ANSA) Y8K.
