Heridos y afectados en un pavoroso incendio en tres mercados de Honduras
Tegucigalpa.- Al menos ocho personas resultaron afectadas y heridas en el pavoroso incendio que se registró hoy en tres mercados populares de Tegucigalpa, la capital de Honduras, informaron miembros del Cuerpo de Bomberos.
Las causas del siniestro se desconocen, pero el incendio fue de «gran magnitud» que requirió «mucho esfuerzo» por extinguirlo, dijo a los periodistas el oficial médico del Cuerpo de Bomberos, Félix Castillo.
Los bomberos dieron cuenta de que ocho personas, entre afectados por la inhalación de humo y otros con heridas cuya gravedad no fue precisada fueron llevados en ambulancias al Hospital Escuela.
El incendio se registró en una zona de varios mercados populares y otros negocios particulares en la ciudad gemela de Comayagüela, que forma parte del Municipio del Distrito Central que constituye la capital hondureña.
El alcalde de Tegucigalpa, Ricardo Álvarez, dijo a los periodistas que «algo raro» se percibe en el siniestro, por la magnitud y el hecho de que prácticamente, al parecer, el fuego comenzó a arder en tres mercados simultáneamente.
Los mercados afectados son el Colón, San Isidro y Álvarez, adyacentes al de Las Américas.
Las pérdidas son millonarias y según indicó el alcalde, se buscarán iniciativas orientadas a ayudar a los vendedores a recuperar sus puestos de venta.
El presidente hondureño, Porfirio Lobo, y el titular del Parlamento, Juan Orlando Hernández, analizarán este sábado el caso y ofrecerán otro tipo de ayuda a los comerciantes que perdieron sus negocios, informó una fuente del poder legislativo.
Los mercados ofrecían ropa, calzado, comestibles de todo tipo, juguetes, cuadernos y útiles escolares, artículos de plástico, enseres eléctricos, entre otros, que fueron consumidos por llamas que levantaban enormes columnas de humo negro que se divisaban desde todos los puntos de la ciudad.
Para investigar las causas del siniestro, el alcalde la ciudad también prevé solicitar la ayuda de expertos de Estados Unidos que se encuentran en el país investigando el origen del incendio que se registró el martes pasado en la cárcel de Comayagua, centro del país, que ha dejado hasta ahora 358 muertos.
El fuego en los mercados inició hacia las 13.00 horas locales (19.00 GMT) y fue controlado tres horas después, en una agotadora jornada de los bomberos, que al principio además tuvieron limitaciones por la falta de agua en los hidrantes cercanos.
Según indicó el oficial Castillo, dos de los bomberos han resultado con lesiones leves producto de la fatiga.
El incendio se originó en el Mercado Colón y se extendió al San Isidro y el Álvarez, los tres inmediatos al de Las Américas.
Los diferentes canales de televisión que han transmitido en directo el suceso, mostraban imágenes de personas desesperadas intentando salvar sus negocios y los daños irreparables que causaba el fuego.
El siniestro se produjo en medio de la conmoción que vive Honduras por el incendio de la cárcel de Comayagua, la peor tragedia sufrida por el país en su sistema penitenciario. EFE
