Gobernador afirma en RD no hay crisis económica
El gobernador del Banco Central, licenciado Héctor Valdez Albizu, consideró ayer que en la República Dominicana no hay una crisis económica, sino en los Estados Unidos y Europa, que atraviesan por una de las turbulencias más grandes en los últimos 80 años. Valdez Albizu recordó que ha señalado en más de una oportunidad que el país ha podido sortear esa crisis, es decir, que esta no ha avasallado a la República Dominicana como le ha pasado a otras naciones. Comentó que eso habla del buen manejo de la economía.

Consideró que eso habla muy bien del manejo que se le ha dado a la economía dominicana. No obstante puntualizó que eso no quiere decir que en el país no haya pobreza, ni problemas, pero estos últimos son “seculares”, que vienen desde hace muchos años y que deben ser enfrentados dándole prioridad a la educación, la salud y la vivienda, lo que se logra fortaleciendo los recursos que se canalizan para esos sectores.
El gobernador del BC ofreció estas declaraciones al contestar preguntas de estudiantes de diferentes colegios que participan en el concurso “Pinta y Gana con el Banco Central y Tinmarín”, la revista infantil del periódico HOY, el cual es auspiciado por esa institución financiera.
El funcionario dijo que más que una crisis económica, lo que ha pasado en el país es un proceso de crecimiento lento del Producto Interno Bruto (PIB).
Recordó que el año pasado la economía dominicana registro el crecimiento más alto entre los países latinoaméricanos y del mundo, 7.5%.
Al recibir a los estudiantes en su despacho, el funcionario también se refirió a la estabilidad de la tasa cambiaría, la cual, dijo, se ha mantenido durante los últimos tres años gracias a la
implementación de una combinación de políticas monetarias y de un plan financiero que tiene claro sus objetivos.
También respondió la inquietud de uno de los estudiantes sobre la devaluación del peso dominicano en los últimos años.
Valdez Albizu respondió que esa devaluación se profundizó luego de la crisis financiera que afectó al país durante el 2003, en la que varios bancos locales tuvieron una situación inmanejable que los llevó a la quiebra absoluta. Explicó que debido a esa situación, el Gobierno de turno tuvo que pagarle millones de pesos a los depositantes de esos bancos, lo que trajo como consecuencia una alta inflación.
