BID dice RD recibió US$3,131 millones en remesas en 2011
Santo Domingo, RD.- El envío de remesas hacia la República Dominicana alcanzó los 3,131 millones de dólares en 2011, un incremento del 7.7 por ciento con relación a 2010, según un estudio divulgado por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID).
De acuerdo a un informe del Fondo Multilateral de Inversiones (Fomin), apéndice del BID, el país caribeño se ubicó así en el quinto lugar entre los que más remesas recibieron durante ese período.
Los países de Latinoamérica que encabezan la lista son México con 22,731 millones de dólares; Guatemala, 4,377; Colombia, 4,168 y El Salvador, 3,650 millones de dólares.
«En países como República Dominicana», da cuenta el estudio, «las remesas pueden alcanzar hasta el 5 por ciento del Producto Interno Bruto».
El informe de Fomin asegura que «sin este flujo regular de recursos que envían los migrantes a sus familiares, muchas familias receptoras caerían por debajo de la línea de pobreza».
Las estadísticas destacan que los emigrados de América Latina y el Caribe, la mayoría de ellos residiendo en Estados Unidos, enviaron unos 61,000 millones de dólares a sus países de origen el año pasado, un 6 por ciento más que los 57,600 millones de dólares remitidos en 2010.
La recepción de remesas constituye una de las «tres patas» en la que está afincada la economía dominicana junto al turismo y las exportaciones de zona franca. EFE
