Costa Cruceros suspende al capitán del crucero, acompañado en el naufragio por una misteriosa joven
Roma.- La compañía Costa Cruceros, propietaria del barco que encalló el pasado viernes frente a la isla italiana de Giglio, anunció hoy la suspensión de sus funciones del capitán de la nave, Francesco Schettino, envuelto ahora en la polémica por la compañía aquella noche de una misteriosa joven de nacionalidad moldava.
El abogado de la naviera, Marco de Luca, informó este jueves de las medidas que, por el momento, ha decidido tomar la compañía, entre ellas la suspensión de Schettino, lo que se considera como un primer paso para proceder a su despido tras el naufragio, que deja un balance de al menos once muertos y una veintena de desaparecidos.
Además, De Luca explicó que la propietaria del crucero «Costa Concordia» se ha constituido como «parte afectada» en la investigación abierta por la Fiscalía de Grosseto, que acusa al capitán, actualmente bajo arresto domiciliario, de homicidio culposo múltiple, naufragio y abandono de la nave.
El letrado sostuvo que la naviera «ha sufrido un daño patrimonial ingente», más allá del «drama humano y la tragedia» que ha causado el naufragio, en el que fallecieron el turista español Guillermo Gual y el tripulante peruano Thomas Alberto Costilla Mendoza, entre otros.
Precisó que aún es «prematuro» hablar de si Costa Cruceros, que insiste en que el accidente se produjo debido a un «error humano» al acercarse el buque excesivamente a Giglio, se constituirá como parte civil en un eventual proceso judicial, aunque es seguro que no ofrecerá asistencia legal al capitán del barco.
La naviera informó hoy también de que se está poniendo en contacto con los pasajeros y las asociaciones de consumidores para devolverles el importe del billete y el resto de gastos materiales surgidos con motivo del naufragio, que provocó la evacuación de los ocupantes de un crucero en el que viajaban 4,229 personas.
El diario «La Repubblica» se hace eco hoy del testimonio de dos fuentes «cualificadas» de la navegación que cuentan que cuando hay problemas, lo último que se intenta hacer es avisar a la Capitanía de Puerto, pues ello conlleva unos controles que se extienden entre 5 y 8 horas, con el consiguiente coste de cientos de miles de euros que comporta el hecho de tener un crucero parado.
El periódico asegura además que tras el momento del choque del «Costa Concordia» contra las rocas, en un plazo de tiempo de una hora y cuarto, Schettino contactó al menos tres veces con el director de operaciones marinas de la naviera propietaria del buque, Roberto Ferrarini.
Una conversación telefónica entre un oficial del «Costa Concordia» y otro de la Capitanía de Puerto de media hora después de la colisión de la nave que difundió hoy el canal de televisión por satélite Sky Tg24 pone de relieve cómo desde el crucero se insistía entonces en que solo se había producido un apagón y que estaban «verificando las condiciones».
Desde la Capitanía de Puerto insistían en que la Policía hubiera recibido una llamada desde el buque de un marinero que hablaba de un techo caído y de que habían puesto los chalecos salvavidas a los ocupantes del barco, a lo que desde el «Costa Concordia» se respondió, de nuevo, con un «estamos verificando las condiciones a bordo».
La polémica volvió a rodear este jueves al capitán al conocerse que la Fiscalía de Grosseto buscaba a una joven rubia de unos 25 años de edad y de nacionalidad moldava, a quien parte del pasaje vio sentada en la sala adyacente al puente de mando del crucero y cenar con el capitán en la noche del naufragio y que no se encontraba en la lista de pasajeros.
Se trata de Domnica Cemortan, quien apareció hace unos días en un canal de televisión de su país para explicar que era también tripulante de barco y que por esto tenía derecho a encontrarse con otros oficiales en el puente de mando y no estar registrada, a pesar de no estar prestando servicio en ese momento.
«Creo que (Schettino) ha llevado a cabo un trabajo extraordinario. Todo el mundo lo piensa. Salvó a más de 3,000 personas», comentaba la joven en la entrevista.
Tras permanecer interrumpidas ayer durante gran parte del día, las tareas de búsqueda de nuevas víctimas se reanudaron hoy a primera hora de la mañana y durante la jornada fueron identificados otros dos de los cuerpos hallados hasta ahora, pertenecientes a un hombre y una mujer franceses.
Las tareas de búsqueda de desaparecidos y de preparación para la extracción del combustible del buque pueden ser suspendidas de nuevo mañana ante el previsto empeoramiento del estado del mar, mientras el titular de Medioambiente, Corrado Clini, informó de que mañana el Consejo de Ministros abordará la ya anunciada medida que pretende establecer una lista de «rutas arriesgadas» para los cruceros.
