Directora Onamet vaticina ola de calor aumentará por llegada del verano
Santo Domingo, RD.- La directora de la Oficina Nacional de Meteorología (Onamet), Gloria Ceballos, advirtió este domingo que según los modelos de pronósticos en el presente año se producirán menos lluvias que las que ocurrieron en el país en los años 2010 y 2011, y que la ola de calor incrementará por la llegada del verano.
Ceballos explicó que ya eso se ha sentido en el mes de mayo, que contrario a lo sucedido en los meses de marzo y abril ha habido pocas precipitaciones.
En tal sentido, sugirió a las autoridades que tienen que ver con el aprovechamiento y uso de las aguas, tomar las medidas de lugar.
Entrevistada en el programa D´AGENDA que cada domingo se difunde por Telesistema Canal 11, Ceballos explicó que la reducción de las precipitaciones para el año en curso guarda relación con los pronósticos que se tienen de la temporada ciclónica.
Recordó que la temporada, que comenzó formalmente el pasado viernes, será menos activa que las anteriores, producto de que el fenómeno conocido como La Niña no estará activo el presente año.
“En tal sentido los modelos de pronósticos nos indican que con respecto a los años 2010 y 2011 en la República Dominicana en el presente año tendremos una disminución de las lluvias”, reiteró la titular de la Onamet.
Sin embargo, la funcionaria aclaró que por el hecho de que esta temporada ciclónica no será muy activa, y además de que habrá una reducción de las precipitaciones, eso no implica que tanto las autoridades de protección civil como la ciudadanía se deban descuidar en torno a la vigilancia y protección permanente que se deben suministrar.
Recordó que en 1930 fue una de las temporadas ciclónicas menos activa en todo el Atlántico Norte y, sin embargo, el ciclón San Zenón que entró al país el tres de septiembre de ese año provocó catastróficas devastaciones al país.
“Por lo tanto, por el hecho de que esta temporada no sea tan activa, eso no puede ser motivo de descuido, porque con un sólo fenómeno que pueda tocar nuestro territorio sería suficiente para provocarnos serios trastornos”, insistió Ceballos.
Dijo que por esta razón la institución que dirige está preparada, tanto en el aspecto técnico, como de recursos humanos para mantener informada a la población y a las demás autoridades que se encargan de la protección civil.
Destacó que la confianza de la Onamet es de tal magnitud que una encuesta reveló que la institución goza de un alto grado de credibilidad en la ciudadanía.
Con respeto a la ola de calor que siente la población, Ceballos advirtió que la misma podría incrementarse en los próximos días porque se avecina el verano.
Explicó que debido a la humedad que prevalece en el aire se tiene la sensación de que la temperatura está en 40 grados centígrados, aunque en realidad esté en menos de 35 grados Celsius.
La funcionaria pidió a la población usar ropas ligeras y consumir mucho líquido y hacer ejercicios moderados en lugares frescos.
