La mayor tragedia del fútbol egipcio deja 74 muertos en un país convulso
El Cairo.- La mayor tragedia en la historia del fútbol egipcio dejó en la ciudad mediterránea de Port Said al menos 74 muertos y sacudió a un país al borde de un ataque de nervios que atraviesa por una transición plagada de catástrofes.
La salvaje batalla entre los aficionados del club local, Al Masry, y los del equipo rival, el cairota Al Ahly, estalló este miércoles (ayer) nada más pitar el árbitro el final del partido que habían ganado los primeros por 3 goles a 1.
Según explicó a Efe un testigo presencial de los hechos, Hosam Mohamed Mustafa, los hinchas del Al Masry amenazaron de muerte desde el comienzo del partido a los seguidores y jugadores de rivales, y al final del encuentro se lanzaron al campo para perseguirlos.
«Los ultras del Al Masry saltaron al campo a linchar a los jugadores del Al Ahly», dijo Mustafa, que añadió que los futbolistas más hostigados fueron las principales estrellas del equipo cairota, como el portero Sherif Ekramy y el centrocampista Mohamed Abutrika.
Las fuerzas de seguridad no impidieron a los miles de hinchas locales invadir el campo al final del encuentro, al igual que habían hecho algunos tras cada gol.
Los hinchas «atacaron como una avalancha a los futbolistas e irrumpieron en la gradas reservadas a los seguidores de Al Ahli», indicó Mustafa.
El delegado de Sanidad de Port Said, Helmy Ali al Afny, señaló a Efe que la mayor parte de los fallecidos perdieron la vida por traumatismos y hemorragias, y también hubo un gran número de ingresados por caídas desde los graderíos del estadio.
Además de los 74 muertos, entre los cuales hay un policía, se han registrado 248 heridos, según las cifras facilitadas por el Ministerio del Interior, que ha formado una comisión para investigar lo sucedido.
La Junta Militar egipcia ordenó el flete de dos aviones militares para evacuar hacia El Cairo al equipo y a los aficionados del Al Ahly, así como a algunos de los heridos graves.
El jefe de la Junta, el mariscal Husein Tantaui, recibió al primer avión militar, con 106 personas a bordo, en el aeropuerto de El Cairo, y en declaraciones a la prensa aseguró que los hospitales de las fuerzas armadas atenderán a los heridos.
Asimismo, se comprometió a indemnizar a las familias de los fallecidos, y evitó pronunciarse sobre posibles destituciones de los responsables de la seguridad, que solo llegarán al final de la investigación.
Mientras, el presidente de la cámara baja del Parlamento egipcio, Saad al Katani, ha convocado de urgencia una sesión de la institución legislativa para debatir el jueves los sucesos de Port Said.
Las repercusiones de los enfrentamientos saltaron de inmediato a otros estadios de Egipto, como sucedió en el choque entre el Zamalek cairota y el Ismaily, que fue suspendido al final de la primera parte por el árbitro, después de que los hinchas del primer equipo incendiasen parte de las gradas.
Los ultras del Al Ahly, más conocidos como los «Diablos Rojos», tienen una bien labrada fama de radicales y se han enfrentado con frecuencia a las fuerzas de seguridad egipcias en las protestas que ha vivido en los últimos meses la plaza Tahrir de El Cairo.
Su rivalidad con los ultras del Al Masry, las «Águilas Verdes», solo es superada en fiereza con la que mantienen con el Zamalek, por lo que la violencia en los estadios egipcios es un fenómeno habitual, aunque no se había llegado nunca a este extremo.
Hace ahora 38 años, el 11 de febrero de 1974, el fútbol egipcio vivió otra gran tragedia, con el hundimiento del estadio del Zamalek en El Cairo, cuando fallecieron 48 espectadores al hundirse una tribuna.
Sin embargo, las circunstancias actuales, con el país convertido en un polvorín tras la revolución que acabó hace un año con el régimen de Hosni Mubarak, han llevado a los principales actores políticos a extraer conclusiones que van más allá de una mera confrontación entre hinchas radicales.
El Partido Libertad y Justicia (PLJ), brazo político de los Hermanos Musulmanes, acusó a los partidarios del antiguo régimen de Hosni Mubarak de los disturbios.
«Los acontecimientos de Port Said están orquestados y son un mensaje de los remanentes del antiguo régimen», denunció el vicepresidente del PLJ, Esam al Arian, en un comunicado difundido en la página web del movimiento islamista.
Por su parte, el Movimiento 6 de Abril, germen de la revolución que derrocó a Mubarak y que ahora pide la renuncia de la Junta Militar, criticó a las fuerzas de seguridad por su inoperancia y su escasa voluntad para detener los enfrentamientos. EFE
