Petróleo de Texas baja un 2.65% y cierra en US$81.80 el barril
Nueva York.- El petróleo de Texas cayó este miércoles en 2.65% y cerró en 81.80 dólares el barril, niveles que no registraba desde octubre, en un día en que se conoció un aumento inesperado de las reservas de crudo y en el que la Fed no terminó de convencer con la extensión de la Operación Twist por 267,000 millones de dólares.
Al cierre de la tercera sesión de la semana en la Bolsa Mercantil de Nueva York (Nymex), los contratos de futuros del Petróleo Intermedio de Texas (WTI) para entrega en julio restaron 2.23 dólares al precio de cierre del martes.
La fuerte caída del llamado «oro negro» se produjo en un día en que el Departamento de Energía anunció que las reservas de petróleo en Estados Unidos aumentaron en 2.9 millones de barriles la semana pasada y se ubicaron en 387.3 millones de barriles.
La mayoría de los expertos había calculado una caída de reservas en la semana de 600,000 de barriles, y ahora los inventarios de crudo se encuentran por encima del promedio para esta época del año y son un 6.4 por ciento mayores que las de hace un año.
En la depreciación del crudo también tuvo que ver la Reserva Federal tras anunciar que prorrogará hasta fin de año su «Operación Twist» de canje de bonos a corto plazo por otros a largo, por valor de 267,000 millones de dólares.
A juicio del banco central estadounidense, la continuación de la Operación Twist, lanzada en septiembre de 2011, «debería rebajar las presiones en los tipos de interés a largo plazo y ayudar a que las condiciones financieras generales sean más expansivas».
Al término de su reunión de dos días, el Comité de Mercado Abierto de la Fed decidió que continuará con la política monetaria que ha tenido la tasa de interés de referencia por debajo del 0.25% desde diciembre de 2008 y ha prometido mantenerla hasta fin de 2014.
Por su parte, los contratos de gasolina con vencimiento en julio, restaron cinco centavos y cerraron en 2.59 dólares por galón (3.78 litros), tras conocerse que sus reservas aumentaron en 900,000 barriles (0.5%) y se ubicaron en 202.7 millones de barriles frente a los 201.8 millones de barriles de la semana anterior.
Los contratos de gasóleo para calefacción también para entrega en julio restaron cinco centavos y acabaron en 2.58 dólares por galón, tras conocerse que sus inventarios aumentaron en 1.2 millones de barriles (1%) y quedaron en 121.1 millones de barriles comparado con 120 millones de barriles en la semana anterior.
Mientras, a la espera de que mañana se conozca el estado de sus reservas, los contratos de gas natural con vencimiento en julio restaron tres centavos hasta cerrar la sesión en 2.51 dólares por cada mil pies cúbicos. EFE
