Inflación de alimentos aumentó al 8.1% en mayo en América Latina y el Caribe
Santiago de Chile.- La inflación alimentaria de América Latina y el Caribe aumentó desde un 7.8 por ciento en abril al 8.1 por ciento en mayo pasado, una tasa cercana al promedio que ha tenido durante el último año y medio (8.3%), informó hoy la oficina regional de la FAO.
Según el último Informe Mensual de Precios de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO), el repunte de mayo pasado en la tasa se debió a leves aumentos en siete de los diecinueve países de la región analizados. En ese mismo período, los precios de los alimentos bajaron en Aruba, Chile, República Dominicana, Ecuador, Nicaragua, El Salvador y Uruguay.
Por regiones, en América del Sur se registraron reducciones en Chile, Ecuador y Venezuela.
En Bolivia la inflación alimentaria aumentó un 1.1% en mayo pasado y se situó en un 3.9% en los últimos doce meses, por debajo de la inflación general.
La tasa más elevada se encuentra en Argentina, con un 10.7%, tras aumentar un 0.7 en mayo.
En México y varios países centroamericanos, como Panamá o Costa Rica, la inflación de alimentos se incrementó en más de un punto porcentual en el último año.
En Aruba y República Dominicana, la tasa se redujo en cerca de medio punto entre abril y mayo pasado.
La inflación alimentaria en República Dominicana se situó en un 4.3%, la más baja en los últimos dos años en ese país caribeño.
En los países donde los precios de los alimentos aumentaron, señaló la oficina regional de la FAO, destacaron las alzas en los precios de la carne de pollo y de res y del tomate. EFE
